How did Zoomdoggle’s Puppy Namer come to be?
It all started with a single dog. Mine. (See the picture below.) He’s a handsome bean, and I was more than happy to provide him with a home. The one thing I wasn’t able to give him was a good name. I had some ideas, my girlfriend had some ideas. But nothing seemed to stick. Finally I put his picture on Zoomdoggle.com and asked readers to suggest names. We got tons, and settled on a great one – Cashew, Cash for short – but we also had an epiphany: People love naming puppies. Why not turn that love into a bit of a charitable game? Minutes later Puppy Namer was born.
I have a puppy, a new puppy, and am having trouble naming it. Can I put it into the Puppy Namer?
Of course, that’s what we’re here for. Just email a picture or three, along with any relevant notes to puppynamer a t gmail.
What if I don’t like the name the community picks for my pup, do I have to name it that?
Don’t be rediculous. It’s just a suggestion, one that a bunch of people think is good. But it’s yours to take or leave. Either way, it’s a fun process and one that does good for puppy related charities. That’s pretty win-win wouldn’t you say?
What if nobody sends in a puppy to be named, will the Puppy Namer go dark that week?
Of course not – who’s writing these questions anyway? – if no one sends in a pup for naming, we’ll use an adoptable dog found at a local shelter. They could use a good name, same as everyone else, but even more, they could use a good home. Maybe the exposure on Puppy Namer will help make it happen. When we use pound-puppies, we’ll tell you though. If you think you might want to take someone home, drop us a line at puppynamer a t gmail and we’ll put you in touch.
I work for a company that would love to get involved, how does it work in terms of donations?
Sponsorship happens by the week. But your welcome to sponsor more than one. All that we ask is that you give 50 cents for each name suggested that week, and 25 cents for each vote to a pet related charity. Don’t worry, we’ll let users know who you are (your company) so all of the pet lovers who visit daily will know who to thank. With the exception of the $10 additional dollars we ask for to give to the person who put in the winning name, every red cent goes to charity.
The name I suggested seems to have gotten the most votes, how do I collect my $10 prize?

I came back and it looks like a name I put in for a puppy a few weeks back got the most votes, how come no one told me?
We leave the voting, naming, and comments open forever (otherwise people couldn’t see all of the great names entered), but only the one that’s gotten the most votes at the end of the day on the Friday following the puppy’s post is the winner. Yours probably wasn’t on top then even though it’s gotten more votes since. By the way, in the event of a tie we’ll divide the prize evenly.
