Pup 21: Name Me

February 1st, 2010

jed's pup

This week’s pup: Is special. I mean, all of the pups here are special, but this one comes courtsy of my cousin Jed. Jed and his wife Abby live with two adorable cats but were eager to add a third furry face to their growing group. This little girl was found in a shelter in Philadelphia. We know almost nothing about her, except that she’s sweet, cat friendly, and now theirs. Here’s the fun bit though, even before they took her home they snapped this shot for me to post to the Puppy Namer. Take a look at that little face and let us know what you think he should be called in the comments section below. But take this job even more seriously than most as they’ve promised to call her whatever it is we come up with. Ready? Set? Name!

This week’s sponsor: TAP’dNY has once again generously pledged 50 cents for each name suggested, and 25 cents for each vote to the ASPCA. And as always, may the best name win.

Pup 20 Named: Chewie

November 9th, 2009

Congrats to DBech for winning the most votes and naming this little pup “Chewie” cause she “Looks like a little Chewbaca.” We raised a good amount for a good cause and did it in a fun way. Good times, right? Regarding the $10? Get in touch DBech and we’ll mail it out. Otherwise, as seems to be the trend, we’ll throw that in hopper for a four-legged charity.

This week’s pup: A Terrier/Chihuahua found in a high-kill shelter over the weekend. The mother is a white terrier with a good heart, a lot of street-smarts (she was raising this little guy on the street), and one blue eye. This little guy is sporting two brown eyes and good disposition despite his previous situation. He is not expected to weigh more than 10 to 15 lbs fully grown. Here’s the thing, having been sprung from the high-kill and brought to a much more humane Bark Avenue Shelter, both have a new lease on life… this little guy should have a new name to go along with it. Take a look at that little face and let us know what you think he should be called in the comments section below. BONUS: If you know anyone who’d like to take them home, let us know.

Pups 18 & 19 Named: Bonnie and Clyde

October 25th, 2009

Congrats to Lily for winning the most votes and naming the pair “Bonnie and Clyde.”: “Giganta.” We raised a good amount for a good cause and did it in a fun way. Good times, right? Regarding the $10? Get in touch Lily and we’ll mail it out. Otherwise, as seems to be the trend, we’ll throw that in hopper for a four-legged charity.

bronsis

This week’s pups: A user submitted twist on a theme. They’re twins, but they’re brother and sister twins. Brother and sister Dachshund/Chihuahua pups that share a heartbreaking tale (no pun intended). Writes Maria: “These adorable little chubby puppies with short little legs were abandoned at a grooming shop around the corner from the shelter just last week. Thank goodness they had each other because they were terrified. No introduction to people inside the store, no food, just a box. The day was tough for them, but they are happy bouncy puppies once more. Excited for new people to hold and love them and new dogs to romp and play! They’re going to need a good home, but first, a they’re going to need a good name.” Take a look at their little faces and let us know what you think they should be called in the comments section below. BONUS: If you know anyone who’d like to take them home, let us know. The shelter in question is in LA.

Pup 17 Named: Giganta

October 19th, 2009

Congrats to Jeffrey for not only being the first one to post a name, but for posting the winning name to boot: “Giganta.” Princess Giganta if I had my way, but who am I… Bottom line, we raised a good amount for a good cause and did it in a fun way. Good times, right? Regarding the $10? Get in touch Jeffrey and we’ll mail it out. Otherwise, as seems to be the trend, we’ll throw that in hopper for a four-legged charity.

giantpuppy1

This week’s pup: Is another reader-submitted. A giant puppy (that’s why she got the giant pictures), but still, very much a puppy. A 10 month Cane Corso Mastiff, this beautiful angel lost her home when her owner lost their job and home and were forced to relocate to a place that doesn’t take pups. She’s got a new home, time for a new name. The new owner points out that: “She was a little timid (hand shy when you try to pet), and we did notice her ears seems torn, and some marks like being with others and they where too rough with her? But nothing really bad. He told us to stay on top of her and be very dominant with her. Other than that, she’s a perfect angel, a giant princess, all she needs is a name to match.”  You heard ‘em gang… princessy names… but princess what or angel who? Take a look at her little faces and let us know what you think he should be called in the comments section below.

Pups 14, 15, and 16 Named: Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail

October 12th, 2009

Congrats to Erin for winning the most votes and naming him Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail “…after Peter Rabbit’s three sisters, because I think they sort of look like bunnies!” As always we raised a good amount for a good cause and did it in a fun way. Good times, right? Regarding the $10? Get in touch Erin and we’ll mail it out. Otherwise, as seems to be the trend, we’ll throw that in hopper for a four-legged charity.

3some

This week’s pups: Our first 3 some! From the look of things, this triple threat are probably a chihuahua mix, although they look like they will be much bigger than a little chihuahua. They were born on 7/28/09, and are absolutely adorable together. In fact, the Columbus rescue where they’re housed are hoping a single home might take the bunch. That said, they need names that play as well in triplet as the actual dogs but, writes Erin, “Many, Moe, and Jack won’t cut it… they’re girls!” Got it? Three lookalike girls. Take a look at their little faces and let us know what you think he should be called in the comments section below. BONUS: If you know anyone who’d like to take them home, let us know.

Pup 13 Named: Battlecat

September 27th, 2009

Congrats to Sam for winning the most votes and naming him Battlecat. Honestly, at first we thought the name was silly, but with so many people on board, who are we to argue. In fact – yeah – we see it now… it kinda works. As always we raised a decent amount for a decent cause. Regarding the $10? Get in touch Sam and we’ll mail it out. Otherwise, as seems to be the trend, we’ll throw that in hopper for a four-legged charity.

lucky13

This week’s pup: Is a bit of a mystery. He was born in early August. His mom is a long-legged dachsund mix weighing about 25 pounds. And aside from that little bit of info, the only other thing Jed G says in his email is “Name him… please.” True, there’s not much to go on, but with such a humble request (and adorable face) how could we say no. You heard the man, get to it. Take a look at that little face and let us know what you think he should be called in the comments section below.

Pups 11 & 12 Named: Curry and Moo

September 20th, 2009

Congrats to Erin for winning the most votes (did someone say ‘landslide) and naming these two Curry & Moo. Yet again we raised a decent amount for a decent cause. As for your $10, Erin, get in touch and we’ll mail it out. Otherwise, as seems to be the trend, we’ll throw that in hopper for a four-legged charity.

pups10n11

This week’s pup(s): Another user submission, and another pair! These two brothers were part of a litter of seven born in South Central LA. Unfortunately, the family to which they born knew they couldn’t care for them properly and, so as not to get too attached, decided not to name them. They’re in foster care now, waiting for their forever home (and ready to go if anyone’s interested), but they’re still lacking proper namage (pronounced like foliage, but meaning name). They don’t look too much alike, and they’re probably not going to the same home, so naming them as a duo isn’t a requirment, but there’s nothing wrong with it either. Take a look at their little faces and let us know what you think they should be called in the comments section below.

Pups 9 & 10 Named:
Smokey & Bandit

September 13th, 2009

SO MANY GOOD NAMES THROWN INTO THE MIX THIS WEEK! If you haven’t done so yet, have a look, there’s loads of smiles and goodness. That said, congrats to Kat for winning the most votes and naming these two Smokey(left) & Bandit(right). We raised a decent amount for a decent cause. As for your $10, Kat, get in touch and we’ll mail it out. Otherwise, as seems to be the trend, we’ll throw that in with this week’s charitable donation.

pups9n10

This week’s pup(s): Another user submission, this time a pair! These two beautiful boys were born in May. “Their mom was a shelter rescue pulled off the street the day before she gave birth,” writes Amber. “She is a Jack Russell Terrier, the dad, hard to say. The pups are bigger than their mom, and based on their markings and size, could be part Beagle or Treeing Walker Coonhound.” They’re not ready to go to a forever home yet, but increasingly, the thinking is that they should go together. “Right now they have names, but they’re silly names, and seperate names. We’d like them to have names that go together – like Salt & Pepper or something – so people can see they go together.” Get it? Then get to it.

We need two names for two pups, but the two need to be named as a pair… a set… a team. Take a look at their little faces and let us know what you think they should be called in the comments section below.

This week’s sponsor: TAP’dNY has once again generously pledged 50 cents for each name suggested, and 25 cents for each vote. This time out though, like last time, the money is going to go to the shelter where these two are currently housed.

Pup 8 Name: Miki

September 7th, 2009

Congrats to Sasa for winning the most votes and naming this little pup Miki (pronounced me-key) and everyone who named and voted. We raised a decent amount for a decent cause. As for your $10, Sasa, get in touch and we’ll mail it out. Otherwise, as seems to be the trend, we’ll throw that in with this week’s charitable donation.

pup8

This week’s pup: Another user submitted pup. This one, brought to a shelter, along with her 7 other brothers and sisters, when they were just 6 weeks old. Imediately, each was given a number. And seen after, all but this little girl were adopted. One part Shih Tzu, one part Pug, this little woman is 100% awesome. Playful and sweet, and not much of a shedder, those who know her say she looks like a little snowball as she slide around on wood floors and often can’t build-up friction enough to stop before hitting walls. Finding her forever home would be nice – though, with 7 just like her already placed, no one is overly concerned – but setting on a decent name would be almost as good. There you have it, take a look at her little face and let us know what you think she should be called in the comments section below.

This week’s sponsor: TAP’dNY has once again generously pledged 50 cents for each name suggested, and 25 cents for each vote. This time out though, the money is going to go to the shelter where nameless Ms. Eight is currently housed.

PUP 7 NAMED: Wonton

August 30th, 2009

Congrats to Cali for winning the most votes, and not by a little bit, and naming this little pup Wonton… Even better, it’s Cali’s second win and the second time she’s donated her $10 prize to the ASPCA as well. How fun is that?

pup7

This week’s pup: Breaks the format in more ways than one. First, there’s the picture, we went long and large so you could appreciate his differently colored eyes. Secondly, he’s the first pup who doesn’t need a forever home, in fact, he just found his. And third, he’s the first user submitted pup… writes Emily:
“I adopted this little guy two days ago and in the 48 hours he’s been in my home we must have tried 900 different names. None seems quite right. I’m hoping the people of PuppyNamer can do better. Some things to keep in mind: he’s a Pit Bull-mix who’s just now teething (meaning, he chews, EVERYTHING). Also, he’s only 6 weeks old, so he’s bound to grow LOTS bigger. Lastly, he seems to get a lot of attention from the ladies – me included – but keep in mind, whatever you name him, I’m probably going to be calling him for years to come, so don’t make it too silly, long or hard to say. Thanks, can’t wait to see what you come up with!” You know the drill namers, take a look at his little face and let us know what you think he should be called in the comments section below.
